Typefully Alternative: When X Is Not Enough

Typefully Alternative: When X Is Not Enough

I build PostSider, so read this as a competitor’s argument and check the numbers yourself. Every Typefully figure below comes from its own pricing page, read on September 16, 2026. Typefully is the best X drafting tool on the market, and for threads it is a better editor than mine. I am not going to pretend otherwise, and $99 a year for Creator is not the number anyone should be fighting about.

The fight worth having starts two months later, when your publishing stops being an X problem.

In short:

  • Typefully is $0 for 10 posts a month, $99 a year for Creator with 1,000 posts, and $18 a month per social set on Business with 1,500 posts, across six networks: X, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon and Substack Notes.
  • A social set is one collection of connected accounts, so that price scales with brands rather than with people, and Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and Pinterest are not covered.
  • A workflow tool built for multi-network teams starts at $20 a month for 5 channels with per-platform caption variants, a preview per network, a posting queue, an approval workflow and an MCP server on every plan, including the cheapest one.

Typefully is the better X editor, and $99 a year is a fair price for that.

Threads are where Typefully pulls away. The composer auto-numbers them and ships a thread finisher, the X and LinkedIn previews are pixel accurate, X Articles support landed on July 8, 2026, and the X analytics are deeper than what a multi-network tool produces, because X is the only network that tool has to model.

PostSider does not have a thread composer built for X the way Typefully does, and its X analytics are not as deep as a single-network tool’s. If that sentence describes the whole of your problem, stop here and go buy Creator.

Typefully covers six networks, and the gap opens on the seventh.

The list is X, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon and Substack Notes, which shipped on July 27, 2026. That is the whole coverage. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and Pinterest are missing, and Typefully has published no roadmap statement about adding them, so anyone promising you they are coming is inventing it.

What that gap costs in practice is a second tool, a copy-paste routine, or an agency billing you to re-upload the same asset by hand. None of those show up on a pricing page, and all three show up in a week.

PostSider covers 30+ platforms, and in September 2026 Facebook, Instagram and TikTok production access was approved, which means Pages, Instagram professional accounts and TikTok accounts can be connected and published to directly instead of copied by hand.

A social set is the right unit for brands, and it is a bill you can size before you sign.

A social set is one collection of connected accounts. Creator is $99 a year, annual billing only, with 1,000 posts a month, one social set and one user. Business is $18 per month per social set on yearly billing, with 1,500 posts a month, up to 50 social sets, unlimited users, teams, roles, and Slack integration. Enterprise is custom, and the older Pro, Team and Agency plans persist for existing customers.

Read that as a pricing philosophy: Typefully charges for brands, not for people. Three brands is three sets, ten brands is ten sets, and the cost is knowable before you pay anything, which is more than most tools offer.

Run it: three brands on Business is $54 a month before anything is scheduled, and Creator’s $99 a year does not absorb the second brand at all, because Creator is one social set and one user. An agency with eight client brands is looking at $144 a month, and the seats stay free because the price is attached to the accounts instead.

$99 a year against $240 a year is the comparison if you only count dollars, and it is the wrong comparison, because the $99 buys one network and one user while the $240 buys five channels, per-platform captions and an approval step. If you run a single X account on your own, Typefully is cheaper and better at it, and the table does not change that.

Per-platform captions and a preview per network matter more once you publish on six networks.

A sentence that works as a LinkedIn post reads wrong as a tweet, and pasting the same text into six boxes is how a brand ends up with a link dump on Pinterest. PostSider carries per-platform caption variants, so one logical post can hold different text, tags and links per network, with a preview per platform before anything is scheduled. Those variants are also what keeps evergreen recycling honest across networks, because a recycled post keeps its per-network text instead of one flattened caption. Typefully invests in a sharp preview of X and LinkedIn instead, which is the correct choice for the networks it covers and no help on the ones it does not.

Typefully has a draft activity log, and an approval workflow is a different thing.

Team access in Typefully requires Business. The roles are Read-only, Write, Write and Publish, and Admin, and that plan brings draft locking, comments, mentions, Slack notifications and a draft activity log that labels changes made through MCP or the API, which landed on February 5, 2026. What Typefully does not have is a multi-step approval workflow, so the reviewer you invited is editing your draft rather than signing off on it.

PostSider puts draft, review and approve on Team and up, at $35 a month for 10 channels and unlimited team members, and the gates are posts, channels and seats rather than process. If approval friction is why you started shopping, that line decides the comparison.

Both tools shipped a real agent surface, so the agent is a tie and the human side breaks it.

Typefully gives even the free plan a REST v2 API at api.typefully.com with drafts endpoints and webhooks, an MCP server at mcp.typefully.com/mcp over OAuth, and agent skills you install with npx skills add typefully/agent-skills. There is no official CLI, and the npm packages named typefully and typefully-cli are third party, so do not build on them.

PostSider ships @postsider/mcp on every plan including Standard, over stdio with npx @postsider/mcp and a POSTSIDER_API_KEY, exposing 19 tools as of September 16, 2026: list channels, find slot, create post, update post status, request approval, get approval status, post analytics and channel analytics among them. There is also a public REST API at /public/v1, a @postsider/node package, HMAC-SHA256 signed webhooks with 3 delivery attempts, and a per-org rate limit of 60 requests a minute. For the mechanics of picking between those shapes, MCP vs REST vs SDK for social media covers it without a vendor in the room, and if you are building a product on top of someone else’s API rather than running your own accounts, Ayrshare vs PostSider is the closer comparison.

Stay on Typefully if X is the product, move if publishing is the job.

Stay on Typefully when X is where your audience lives, threads are the work, and one brand is the whole story. At $99 a year that is excellent value, and X Articles support plus the analytics depth are things I cannot match today.

Move when the fourth network shows up, when a second brand needs its own queue, when a post has to be approved by someone before it goes out, or when an agent does the drafting and you would rather it asked permission. If you are still comparing schedulers in general, Buffer alternatives in 2026 runs the same exercise with different names in the table.

Migration is an afternoon, not a project.

Nothing imports another tool’s queue automatically, so plan to reconnect each platform’s OAuth on the new side and rebuild whatever is scheduled ahead. Pull your drafts out while you still have them, leave Typefully connected for a week to confirm nothing fires twice, and use a bulk CSV import if you are moving a backlog rather than a calendar. The mechanics of the publishing API you are moving to, idempotency and webhooks included, are in the 2026 social media scheduling API breakdown.

Running both is a legitimate answer, and it is what I would do as a solo founder with one X account and a client who insists on Instagram: draft where you think, schedule where you publish. PostSider’s pricing is the place to check the channel math against your own setup.

Frequently asked questions

Is Typefully or PostSider cheaper?

Depends on what you count. Typefully Creator is $99 a year for 1,000 posts a month on 1 social set, 1 user, annual billing only. PostSider Standard is $20 a month for 5 channels and 400 posts, and Team is $35 a month for 10 channels with unlimited posts and unlimited team members, or $28 on annual billing. For one X account used by one person, Typefully is the cheaper and better tool. The moment a second brand or a second network is in play, the PostSider side is cheaper.

Does Typefully post to Instagram or TikTok?

No. Typefully covers 6 networks: X, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon and Substack Notes, which shipped on July 27, 2026. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and Pinterest are not supported, and there is no published roadmap statement about adding them. PostSider covers 30+ platforms, and in September 2026 Facebook, Instagram and TikTok production access was approved, so Pages, Instagram professional accounts and TikTok accounts can be connected and published to directly.

Can I keep Typefully for drafting and use PostSider for scheduling?

Yes, and for a lot of teams that is the right answer. Typefully's free plan already includes API, MCP and Agent Skills access, so drafting there costs nothing, though there is no official CLI and the npm packages named typefully and typefully-cli are third party. PostSider's MCP server ships on every plan including the $20 Standard tier, so an agent can move a finished draft into a queue with an approval step attached.

Does Typefully have an approval workflow?

Not a multi-step one. Inviting teammates requires Business at $18 per month per social set on yearly billing, and the roles are Read-only, Write, Write and Publish, and Admin, with draft locking, comments, mentions, Slack notifications and a draft activity log that labels changes made through MCP or the API as of February 5, 2026. Reviewers edit the draft rather than sign off on it. PostSider's draft, review and approve workflow is on Team and up, at $35 a month for 10 channels.

What do I get for $20 a month on PostSider?

5 channels and 400 posts a month, 1 seat, plus agent access, the MCP server and the REST API. Approval workflows and multi-user roles start one tier up on Team at $35 a month, which is 10 channels with unlimited posts and unlimited team members. Both are capped on posts, channels and seats rather than on features by surprise, and annual billing takes 20 percent off the list price.
