Metricool Alternative for Agencies: The Real Bill

Metricool Alternative for Agencies: The Real Bill

I build PostSider, so treat this as a biased comparison and check every number against Metricool’s own pricing page before you spend anything. Here is the objection I hear from agencies sitting on a Metricool trial: Starter is $20 a month and PostSider Team is $35, so switching costs money. That math holds right up until the first client approval. Metricool puts its post approval system, role management and API access on Advanced, which starts at $53 a month on annual billing, and a Metricool brand is one social profile rather than one client. The $20 against $35 comparison is real, and it is also the wrong pair of numbers.

In short:

  • Metricool Starter is $20/mo per 5 brands on annual billing and $25/mo on monthly billing, and a brand is one social profile set, so 6 clients bill as a 10-brand block at $36/mo (annual) or $45/mo (monthly).
  • Metricool puts its post approval system, role management and API access on Advanced, which starts at $53/mo annual and $67/mo monthly, and X/Twitter is a paid add-on outside every plan.
  • PostSider Team is $35/mo flat for unlimited team members, 10 channels, unlimited posts, approval workflows, and the MCP and REST API on every plan including the $20 Standard tier.

Metricool is the best analytics you can buy under $100 a month, and that is the whole pitch

Metricool’s Starter tier at $20/mo on annual billing includes competitor tracking up to 100 profiles, unlimited analytics history, ad account reporting, Looker Studio, and branded PDF and PowerPoint reports. Nothing else at that price matches it on reporting.

I am reading that straight off the vendor’s own feature list, and I am not going to argue with it. The free plan carries its own weight too: 1 brand, up to 20 scheduled posts a month, 5 competitor profiles and 30 days of analytics history, with no LinkedIn or X connection. For an agency that sells a monthly performance report, the case for paying Metricool $20 a month closes itself. If reporting is the product you deliver, this section is the end of the argument and the rest of this post does not apply to you.

The sticker price is not the bill, because Metricool sells brands in fixed blocks

Metricool sells brands in fixed blocks of 5, 10, 15, 25 and 50 rather than a la carte, and its plan explainer defines a brand as one social media account or profile per supported platform. A client with a Facebook page, an Instagram profile and a LinkedIn page consumes three brands before the agency has added a second client.

Starter on annual billing is $20/mo for 5 brands and $36/mo for 10 brands, and the same tiers bill at $25/mo and $45/mo on monthly billing. Metricool advertises an annual saving of up to 24% over monthly billing, so the annual number is a commitment, not a default you get for free. A six-client agency whose clients run a couple of profiles each does not sit in the tier it thought it bought.

Advanced is where the ladder separates. On annual billing it is $53/mo for 15 brands, $85/mo for 25 brands and $159/mo for 50 brands; on monthly billing those same tiers are $67, $107 and $210. Metricool’s own explainer states the entry point as “From EUR 43/month (billed annually) or EUR 54/month (billed monthly). From $53/month (billed annually) or $67/month (billed monthly).”

X/Twitter is a separate line item on top of any of that. Metricool’s explainer says X is not included in any plan and is sold at EUR 5 per connected account per month. An agency with six clients on X is paying for six add-ons that never appear in the headline price.

Metricool’s API is real, and it sits two tiers up from the free plan

Metricool lists API access through Zapier, Make and its own MCP server on Advanced and Custom only, so the automation path starts at $53/mo on annual billing. PostSider ships its REST API under /public/v1, the @postsider/node SDK and a 17-tool MCP server on every plan, including Standard at $20/mo.

Metricool ships its own MCP server, so agent access is not exclusive to PostSider and this post will not claim otherwise. The difference is where the gate sits. PostSider’s MCP server exposes 17 tools over stdio, authenticated with an API key through npx @postsider/mcp. The REST API allows 60 requests per minute, POST /public/v1/posts accepts an Idempotency-Key header so a retried call does not double-post, and signed webhooks use HMAC-SHA256 with 3 delivery attempts. If you want the three integration surfaces compared side by side before you commit to one of them, I wrote that up in MCP vs REST vs SDK for social media.

The seam nobody prices: an approved post still has to get published

Metricool has both an approval system and a publishing calendar, but the approval system is listed only on Advanced and Custom while publishing starts on the free plan. PostSider runs approval, the queue, next-free-slot placement, Smart Slots and Evergreen recycling inside one flow, so a signed-off post schedules in the same step.

The plan boundary is the seam. The publishing calendar ships on every Metricool tier including the free one, and the feature that collects a client’s sign-off does not, which means an agency doing client review is paying for Advanced to get a step that still hands the post back to a calendar. A six-month review published by The Marketing Agency, checked on 2026-09-11, rates Metricool 3.8/5 and reports no built-in media library plus fiddly TikTok and YouTube Shorts publishing. A separate writeup of Metricool’s pricing structure, checked the same day, quotes Metricool’s own G2 pros-and-cons summary naming “expensive, especially with unexpected charges and costly add-ons” as a recurring theme.

On PostSider the workflow is the product. A draft enters, a person or an agent checks it, a client approves it, and the queue places it. Bulk CSV import, per-platform preview and hashtag groups sit in the same path, and the AI in the product is a Post Checker and caption rewrite. There is no built-in post generator, so if you want software that writes the posts for you, this is the wrong product and I would rather you learn that before a trial than after one.

What Metricool does better than PostSider, stated plainly

Metricool handles ad campaign management across Meta, Google and TikTok, competitor benchmarking, a website traffic dashboard, branded PDF and PowerPoint report templates, and it keeps a permanent free plan. PostSider has none of those, and it also ships no social listening, no unified DM inbox, no helpdesk or CRM integrations and no SSO.

If the job is data, Metricool is the better purchase and I would keep paying for it. Reading paid performance and organic performance for a client in one dashboard is work PostSider does not do. Running both tools is a legitimate answer rather than a cop-out: Metricool for the report a client reads, PostSider for the approvals, the queue and the API behind it. Price that two-tool stack against a single Metricool Advanced subscription before you decide, because at 15 brands Advanced is $53/mo and the stack is not free either.

A six-client agency pays $36 a month on Starter, and $53 the moment approvals enter the picture

For a six-client agency on the 10-brand block, Metricool Starter is $36/mo on annual billing or $45/mo on monthly billing, both before the X add-on. Add the approval system and the floor moves to Advanced at $53/mo annual or $67/mo monthly, which is $18 more per month than PostSider Team at $35.

PostSider’s annual toggle is a straight 20% discount on list price, so Team bills at $28/mo when you pay for the year. Metricool’s annual discount is advertised as up to 24%. Compare the two on the same billing basis or the table lies to you.

A fifteen-client agency compares $53 a month against $45 a month, and the channel mix decides it

For 15 brands, Metricool Advanced is $53/mo on annual billing and $67/mo on monthly billing. PostSider Pro is $45/mo for 30 channels with unlimited posts, and X is not a separate purchase on any tier. The next Metricool tier up, 25 brands, is $85/mo annual or $107/mo monthly.

The 15-brand figure assumes one profile per client, so an agency whose clients run several profiles climbs to the 25-brand tier and past PostSider Pro on price. PostSider caps channels per tier the same way Metricool caps brands, so the honest claim is predictable flat tiers rather than no limits. Standard is $20/mo for 5 channels and a single seat, Team is $35/mo for 10 channels with unlimited posting and unlimited team members, Pro is $45/mo for 30 channels, Ultimate is $90/mo for 100 channels, and every plan carries a 7-day trial with no free tier behind it. If your client count keeps climbing, the per-channel math is worth reading before you buy any tier, which I worked through in the per-channel pricing tax for agencies.

When to stay on Metricool and when to switch

Stay on Metricool if what you need is data, meaning competitor tracking, ad reporting and website traffic in one dashboard, and if nobody outside your team has to approve a post. Switch if your week goes into moving approved posts into a publishing queue, or if you need the API and approvals without buying the Advanced tier.

That is the whole decision rule and there is no scorecard behind it. The reader who should switch usually knows already: the report is fine, and the sign-off step still lives in email and a shared document. The reader who should stay needs the analytics surface and would be downgrading to leave it.

The migration takes an afternoon, not a quarter

Moving off Metricool means reconnecting each profile through its own OAuth flow, rebuilding the approval set with the right client reviewers, and importing the backlog. PostSider’s bulk CSV import moves a content backlog in one file rather than post by post, and it starts on the Pro plan at $45 a month.

Rebuild the approval set first so each client reviewer sees only their own content, then import the backlog and let the queue place it through next-free-slot or Smart Slots, with Evergreen recycling picking up anything that performed well the first time. If you are still comparing tools at a wider level, seven Buffer alternatives covers the next tier down, and the pricing page has the four PostSider tiers with the trial terms on each.

Frequently asked questions

Is Metricool or PostSider cheaper for an agency?

Depends on client count and whether you need approvals. Metricool Starter at $20/mo annual covers 5 brands with analytics but no approval system and no API. PostSider Team at $35/mo covers unlimited team members, 10 channels, and approvals. Metricool only becomes the cheaper approvals path at Advanced, $53/mo annual.

Does Metricool charge extra for X/Twitter?

Yes. Metricool's own plan explainer says X is not included in any plan and is sold as a paid add-on at EUR 5 per connected account per month. PostSider connects X as part of the plan at no extra cost on any tier.

Is Metricool worth it?

For analytics, yes. Competitor tracking to 100 profiles, unlimited analytics history, ad account reporting, and Looker Studio all sit on Starter at $20/mo annual, which nothing at that price matches. It is not worth it if your bottleneck is client sign-off, because the approval system starts on Advanced.

Can I keep Metricool for analytics and use PostSider to publish?

Yes, and some agencies run both. Metricool handles reporting and PostSider handles approvals, queues, and publishing. Price the two-tool stack against one Advanced subscription before you decide.

What does Metricool do that PostSider does not?

Ad campaign management across Meta, Google, and TikTok, competitor benchmarking, a website traffic dashboard, branded PDF and PowerPoint report templates, and a permanent free plan.
