Hootsuite Alternative for Small Agencies

Hootsuite Alternative for Small Agencies

For a small agency that mainly plans, approves, and publishes client content, PostSider is the more focused Hootsuite alternative. Its monthly plans are flat by tier, from $20 for 5 channels to $90 for 100, instead of multiplying the bill by every user. Hootsuite is still the better product when your retainer depends on a unified inbox, social listening, advanced analytics, or enterprise controls. That is the bottom line.

I build PostSider, so this comparison comes with an obvious bias. I have linked Hootsuite’s own pages, used its US checkout prices as of September 24, 2026, and stated the gaps in my product before asking you to try it.

In short:

  • Hootsuite Standard costs $149 per user month-to-month and includes 10 social accounts. Professional is $299 per user with unlimited accounts, while approvals start on Advanced at $499 per user.
  • PostSider Team costs $35 per month for 10 channels, unlimited posts, unlimited members, approvals, and roles. Pro is $45 for 30 channels; Ultimate is $90 for 100.
  • Choose Hootsuite for inbox, listening, deeper analytics, and enterprise governance. Choose PostSider when the paid work is content moving from draft to approval to publish.

The right alternative replaces the job you do, not every box on a feature page

A publishing agency has a repeatable loop. Someone drafts client content. A reviewer checks it. An approver signs off. The post enters a queue, publishes, and produces enough data for the next report.

PostSider is built around that loop. The features page covers the calendar, per-platform previews, automated queues, analytics, approvals, and agent access. The plans then cap channels, posts, and seats at clear levels. Standard has one seat, 5 channels, and 400 posts per month. Team and higher plans include unlimited team members and unlimited posts, but channels remain capped. Flat and predictable is the claim. Unlimited everything is not.

Hootsuite does a much larger job. Its suite reaches into community care, brand monitoring, sentiment, competitive research, paid and organic reporting, routing, and enterprise administration. If people on your team spend all day inside a social inbox, a publishing-first alternative cannot replace their work.

Hootsuite’s monthly rates make every additional login a budget decision

The current Hootsuite Plans page says plans are sold per user, extra seats must be purchased, and Standard includes 10 social accounts. Hootsuite’s official Standard, Professional, and Advanced pages show 1 or more users. The Professional and Advanced pages state unlimited social accounts. All Hootsuite sources in this article were accessed September 24, 2026.

Here is the month-to-month comparison. Every rate in this table uses monthly billing, so an annual discount is not being compared with a monthly plan.

The Hootsuite month-to-month prices above come from its official US checkout for Standard, Professional, and Advanced, checked September 24, 2026. They are USD prices before tax. Hootsuite can localize price and currency, so treat them as US figures and verify your local checkout before approving a budget.

The structural difference matters more than the starting number. In Hootsuite, a strategist, coordinator, and approver each need a paid seat. In PostSider Team, adding members does not change the bill, but connecting an eleventh channel moves the account to Pro. One model meters people. The other steps up by channel capacity.

For a wider look at how those units affect margins, read the per-channel pricing tax for agencies. Use your own channel and login counts rather than somebody else’s sample agency.

Annual Hootsuite pricing is lower, but it remains per user

Hootsuite’s annual US checkout prices are separate from the monthly table above. Standard is $99 per user per month, billed as $1,188 per year. Professional is $199 per user per month, billed as $2,388 per year. Advanced is $399 per user per month, billed as $4,788 per year. Enterprise uses custom annual pricing.

Those figures come from the same official checkout pages, accessed September 24, 2026. The discount is meaningful, but it does not change the unit being purchased. Another login still means another annual seat.

PostSider also offers annual billing, but the main comparison here stays on month-to-month rates because that is the cleanest test for an agency evaluating a switch without a long commitment. The PostSider pricing page shows the current monthly and annual options, plus the 7-day trial.

Hootsuite earns its premium through inbox, listening, analytics, and control

The strongest case for Hootsuite is not scheduling. Plenty of tools schedule posts. The case is that Hootsuite combines publishing with adjacent work that larger social teams already pay people to do.

Its Social Media Inbox page, accessed September 24, 2026, describes one inbox for messages and comments across major networks. Higher plans add assignments, routing, automated replies, team collaboration, and customer-care reporting. That is real operational depth for an agency responsible for response times.

Listening is another clear win. According to the official Hootsuite Standard plan, Standard includes basic brand and competitor monitoring with a shorter search window. The Professional plan adds deeper listening, sentiment, and trend tools. The Enterprise plan extends governance, reporting, and listening for larger organizations. All pages were accessed September 24, 2026.

Hootsuite also has stronger custom and scheduled reporting, paid plus organic analysis, competitor benchmarks, message routing, SSO, and compliance options. Those are expensive features to build and maintain. If they appear in your client scope or procurement checklist, the higher price is buying work you actually perform.

Approval pricing is where the agency comparison changes

Hootsuite’s official Advanced plan page, accessed September 24, 2026, puts advanced approvals, internal collaboration, message routing, and team metrics on Advanced. The US rate is $499 per user with monthly billing or $399 per user per month with annual billing.

PostSider puts approval workflows and multi-user roles on Team at $35 per month. A writer can prepare the post, a reviewer can check the per-platform preview, and an approver can move it into the publishing queue. Team also includes automated queues and sets, advanced analytics, and the AI post checker and rewrite tool.

This is the daily agency distinction. If approval is one feature inside a broad customer-care suite, Hootsuite’s bundle may make sense. If approval is the gate between a finished caption and a scheduled post, paying for the whole suite can be hard to justify. I wrote the exact operating pattern in the client approval workflow that stops typos.

PostSider Pro adds CSV bulk import, first comments, webhooks, priority publishing, and an audit log at $45 per month. Ultimate raises capacity to 100 channels and adds custom OAuth apps and priority support at $90. Agencies using a recurring queue can pair that with evergreen recycling for retainers rather than rebuilding the same calendar every month.

PostSider does not replace Hootsuite’s inbox, listening, or enterprise layer

PostSider has no unified social inbox. It does not collect client DMs and comments into a customer-care queue. It has no social listening product for sentiment, trend forecasting, or broad brand monitoring. It does not offer SSO/SAML or Hootsuite’s enterprise compliance controls.

Its analytics are useful for publishing and reporting, but they are not a substitute for Hootsuite’s deeper paid and organic analysis, custom reports, benchmarks, or enterprise ROI tooling. Platform API coverage also varies. If executive reporting is a large part of the retainer, test the exact data you need rather than trusting a feature label. The 45-minute monthly client report explains the narrower reporting loop PostSider is designed to support.

This is not a footnote. An agency that sells community management should stay with Hootsuite, or keep another inbox product beside PostSider. An agency that sells listening reports should stay. A company whose security team requires SSO and formal enterprise controls should stay. A low monthly price does not repair a missing capability.

A mixed setup is valid too. Keep Hootsuite where a team handles messages and listening. Move publishing-heavy clients to PostSider when the seat bill is the problem. Software does not need to win every row to be the right tool for one part of the operation.

A safe switch runs both tools before either one is canceled

Do not move a live client calendar in one afternoon. Inventory every channel, user, approval rule, recurring slot, and scheduled post. Export what Hootsuite provides, save media separately, then rebuild the schedule in the new tool.

PostSider Pro includes CSV bulk import. Smaller queues can be rebuilt directly in the calendar. Connect channels while Hootsuite is still active, choose a clear cutover date, and let each tool own one side of that date. Check the first live posts on the networks themselves before canceling anything.

The complete checklist is in how to switch from Buffer or Hootsuite. My recommendation is one overlap week. That costs less than explaining a blank client feed.

The buying test is simple. Put one real client through PostSider’s 7-day trial. Add the people who draft and approve, connect the actual channels, load next week’s posts, and let the workflow expose what is missing. If the missing thing is an inbox, listening, or enterprise control, keep Hootsuite. If nothing is missing except the per-user invoice, the pricing page shows the tier that fits your channel count.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Hootsuite cost per month in 2026?

In the US checkout, Hootsuite Standard is $149 per user month-to-month, Professional is $299, and Advanced is $499. With annual billing, the displayed rates are $99, $199, and $399 per user per month, paid as $1,188, $2,388, and $4,788 per year. Enterprise is custom priced. Prices can vary by country and currency, so check your local checkout.

Does Hootsuite charge per user or per social account?

Hootsuite charges per user. The plan then sets the social account allowance: Standard includes 10 social accounts, while the current Professional and Advanced pages state unlimited social accounts. Extra team members require extra paid seats.

Which Hootsuite plan includes approval workflows?

Advanced is the first current Hootsuite self-serve plan with advanced approval workflows and internal collaboration. Its US price is $499 per user month-to-month or $399 per user per month on annual billing. PostSider includes approval workflows and unlimited team members on Team at $35 per month.

Is PostSider a complete replacement for Hootsuite?

No. PostSider covers planning, approvals, queues, publishing, analytics, and automation, but it does not have Hootsuite's unified social inbox, social listening, SSO/SAML, or enterprise compliance controls. Agencies that sell community management or listening should stay with Hootsuite or keep a separate tool for those jobs.

Can I migrate scheduled posts from Hootsuite to PostSider?

Hootsuite can export scheduled posts as CSV, but media files need separate handling. PostSider Pro includes CSV bulk import. Run both tools in parallel for one week, split the queue at a clear cutover date, and verify the first live posts before canceling Hootsuite.
